Sump Pump

Last updated: November 27, 2017

What Does Sump Pump Mean?

A sump pump is a unit used to pump water from a sump collection unit that is collecting unwanted underground water. The water is then transferred into a sewer system or redirected to proper channels for disposal. A sump pump normally collects groundwater and pumps it away from a location where it can cause damage (e.g. a house basement).

The sump collects the water and when it reaches the preconfigured level, the pump turns on and pumps the water away.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Sump Pump

水causes damage to buildings and construction activities. Geological surveys and geotechnical investigations will produce a report showing the level of groundwater in the area of a construction project. This information will reveal whether a sump pump installation will be required to keep water away from the finished building.

A sump pump is connected to a sewer system so that the water can be discharged to a safe environment. Where groundwater is being pumped, the sump pump can be connected to a storm water system. However, if there is a possibility of contaminated water, it must be routed to the wastewater system.
