What Does Shotcrete Mean?
Shotcrete is a process by where a concrete mixture is conveyed through a hose and pneumatically projected at high velocity onto a receiving surface. Unlike a standard concrete application, shotcrete requires no compaction, and has no need for expansion joints. Application is even and can be applied from a safe distance. In trenchless technology, shotcrete is used for repairing sewage and water pipelines in a cost effective way. Using shotcrete technology helps protect against corrosion and fills up cracks in pipe interiors.

Depending on the liquid carried within the pipe, and the material of the pipe, every pipe is subject to corrosive agents. Overtime, damage within the pipe can give rise to cracks and holes which can lead to infiltration or ex-filtration, causing contamination. Once damage is suspected, the affected pipeline is isolated, cleaned and inspected using CCTV inspection cameras and damaged spots are noted. Shotcrete material is made using cement, sand and additives. Using special equipment, the cement mixture is pneumatically shot onto the damaged surface and allowed to cure. Before the pipeline is put to use again, a video inspection is carried out to ensure that the rehabilitative work has been successful. This method is more cost effective than replacing damaged pipelines, as shotcrete material is resistant to high temperatures and corrosion, and adheres well to the pipeline.
