Horizontal Rotary Drilling

Last updated: May 11, 2017

What Does Horizontal Rotary Drilling Mean?

Horizontal rotary drilling is the mechanical installation of pipe or casing by rotating methods which do not use augers for the removal of spoil. This installation method uses a slurry of water and Bentonite to remove spoil. Similar to the wash bore method, this installation process is used in trenchless construction to bore 4 to 10 inch (10 cm-25 cm) holes in resistant strata. The process is also effective for silt and sand.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Horizontal Rotary Drilling

水平旋转钻井结合使用a rotary drilling head with a drill string attached to the bore. Drilling mud is pumped through the drill string and out of the head to remove the spoil from the bore and stabilize the bore hole. The fluid also serves to cool the cutting head during the drilling process. Entry and exit points are typically at ground level for this process, thus eliminating the need to create entrance and exit pits.
