Hydraulic Cleaning

What Does Hydraulic Cleaning Mean?

Hydraulic cleaning consists of a set of techniques which include the use of high-pressure, high-velocity water to clean sewer lines. Cleaning methods usually involve the use of various types of equipment such as jet cleaners, jet rodders and high-velocity cleaners.

The water velocity produced by the jets are usually high enough to remove most debris from the sewer system including sediments, grease, tree roots, concrete and other objects which may cause an obstruction or blockage.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Hydraulic Cleaning

Types of hydraulic cleaning devices include cleaning balls, bags, kites, scooters, pigs, and tires. In essence, the high-velocity water produced by these devices are used to clean the walls of the sewer by forcefully pushing debris downstream to be removed at a manhole location.

In addition to preventing stoppages, hydraulic cleaning is also used to ensure the removal of obstructions to permit ease of access for manual sewer inspections, thus providing a clear view of the pipe’s interior for inspection personnel, CCTV cameras, and sonar profiling equipment.
