年代plit Design

What Does Split Design Mean?

A split design is a boring machine which can be broken down into multiple elements – two or more – for ease of transportation. Each element, such as the derrick, the drill floor, and supporting structures and elements, can be transported individually. This means that a 240,000-pound rig might be broken down into three or four parts each weighing less than 80,000 pounds, enabling each part of the transported on one or more trucks.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Split Design

Larger Boring rigs may way up to 8400 pounds, slightly more than 4 tons. The largest tunnel boring machine weighs 900 tons – 18,000 pounds.

While these weights don't approach the upper limit of the tractor-trailer's carrying capacity of 80,000 pounds, they are large, bulky components with special transportation requirements including overweight and oversized permits in many states. The split design allows these large machines to be broken into smaller component parts, which may be transported more easily.
