Cenozoic Era

What Does Cenozoic Era Mean?

Cenozoic denotes the most recent era of the geological eras comprising the tertiary and quaternary periods and follows the Mesozoic era. The Cenozoic Era supposedly began 66 million years ago. Ocean drilling campaigns provide core samples from these deep sea sediments. The Cenozoic Era is also known as the age of mammals because mammals supposedly diversified in this era and also the continents moved into their current places.

Trenchlesspedia Explains Cenozoic Era

Natural gas hydrates are mainly found in the sediments deposited in the cenozoic layer. The sedimentary structure includes different shapes such as brecciated, patchy, vein and lenticular layers. Fluids accumulate in fluid lenses and vein structures when they percolate the sediment fissures and inter-particle pores. Water with gas present in it sometimes get dissociated from the surrounding pore fluids and migrate upward along bedding frames forming lenticular-layered structures. Brecciated shapes indicate high pressure fracture zones.
